Mike DeVivo, Director of the Geography Program at Grand Rapids Community College and recipient of the AAG Presidential Achievement Award, will visit the University of New Mexico’s Department of Geography and Environmental Studies from April 8–10, 2025. As part of his visit, he will present a public lecture on geographic leadership and pedagogy on
April 10, 2025. The lecture will draw on his experience developing a nationally recognized community college geography program. In addition to his public talk, DeVivo will meet with undergraduate and graduate students and engage faculty in conversations about best practices in geography education and community-engaged scholarship.
DeVivo is also the author of Leadership in American Academic Geography: The Twentieth Century and the creator of the “Conversations with a Geographer” interview series. A military veteran and accomplished photographer, he brings a broad perspective on leadership, service, and the discipline of geography.
